If you can only start one, start with the ad that matches how your customers buy. If people already search for what you sell, start with Google. If they do not know you exist yet, start with Meta. This post explains the difference, so you can pick with a clear head.
We run both for brands in Dubai. The facts about the platforms below come from their own pages, dated as of October 2026. The prices are ours.
What is the real difference between Meta ads and Google ads?
Meta ads reach people while they scroll Facebook and Instagram, so they work on people who were not looking for you. Google Search ads reach people at the moment they type a search, so they work on people who already want something. One creates interest. The other catches it.
Meta's own page says you choose who sees your ad and where they see it. You can narrow the audience by things like interests and location. Meta also says its system learns over time who responds to the ad and narrows the audience to match (Meta for Business, as of October 2026).
Google describes Search ads as aimed at "people who are actively searching online for your products and services." Your ad shows when a search relates to one of your keywords, and Google uses bids made at the moment of the search to decide which ads to show (Google Ads, as of October 2026).
Here is the short version in a table.
Which should a new UAE brand start with?
A new brand should usually start with Meta. Few people search for a product they have never heard of, so Google Search has little to catch. Meta lets you put the product in front of the right people, with a picture or a film, before they know to look for it.
Think about a new perfume house in Dubai. Nobody types its name into Google yet. Nobody knows the scent exists. A Google ad has almost nothing to match. A Meta ad can show the bottle, tell the story and bring in the first buyers.
This is also why the ad itself matters more on Meta. The creative does the selling. A weak video or a flat image gets scrolled past. That is why we make the ads in house, with AI video, video production and Arabic ads, alongside the ad management.
Meta says ad delivery works best when the audience is between 2 and 10 million people (Meta for Business, as of October 2026). Keep that in mind when you choose a narrow niche, because a tiny audience gives the system less to learn from.
Which should a business with existing demand start with?
If people already search for what you sell, start with Google Search. Someone typing "emergency AC repair" or "villa for sale in Dubai Hills" wants it now. Your ad shows at that exact moment. You are not trying to persuade a stranger. You are being found.
Google's page says Search ads target people who are already looking. That is the whole value. If your category has real search volume in the UAE, a Search ad can be the fastest way to a sale or an enquiry.
Good fits for Google first:
- Services people need urgently, such as repairs, clinics and legal help
- Products with a clear name people search for, such as a specific model or brand
- Businesses where one lead is worth a lot, so each click can pay for itself
Weak fits for Google first:
- A new product with no search habit yet
- A category where there are very few searches in your market
- A brand whose main selling point is how it looks or feels, which a text ad cannot show
What budget do you need before you start?
Be honest about budget before you pick a platform. XMA Media needs at least AED 30,000 a month in ad spend to run a retainer. Below that, the management fee would cost more than the media it manages. If you are under that line, start with one platform and a small, tight test.
This matters because splitting a small budget across two platforms tells you nothing. Neither gets enough money to show a pattern. One platform with a clear goal teaches you more than two with scraps.
Our retainer for Meta and Google management starts from AED 34,000 a month ex VAT, with a three month minimum. It covers managed ad spend up to AED 50,000 a month. Above that, we charge a percentage of the extra spend only: 10% on spend up to AED 200,000, 8% up to AED 500,000, and 6% above that. For example, AED 150,000 of ad spend gives a fee of AED 44,000 for the month, ex VAT.
Your ad spend is paid to the platform, never through us. You own your ad accounts. The full ladder is on our pricing page, and the service is described on our ad management page.
If you are below AED 30,000 a month, we say so. We would rather tell you what to do first than sell you a retainer that costs more than your media.
How do you know which one is working?
Judge each platform by your own orders or enquiries, not only by the platform's report. Meta and Google each count results in their own way, and the two numbers rarely match your sales. Check the platform's number against what actually came into your shop or your inbox.
This is how we report. Our monthly report is based on the client's own orders or leads, not only platform data. We run a weekly cycle: test new ads against the current best one, read the results from real sales, cut the losers and refresh the winners.
A few simple checks help any business:
- Set one goal per platform, such as sales or booked calls.
- Tag your links so you can see which platform sent each order.
- Answer every lead fast. A good ad wasted on a slow reply is money lost.
- Compare the platforms on cost per real sale, not cost per click.
If you need a place to catch and follow up leads from both, our sister product XMA Boost puts WhatsApp and your pipeline in one inbox. It is listed from $99 a month.
When should you add the second platform?
Add the second platform once the first one runs steadily and you know your cost per sale. Then the second has a job to do. Meta fills the top with new people. Google catches the people who go on to search for you after they saw you.
A common pattern is this. Meta builds awareness, and some of those people later search your brand name on Google. If you have no Google ad, a competitor can sit above you for that search. Adding Google Search then protects the demand Meta created.
The reverse can also work. A brand that starts on Google and hits a ceiling, because only so many people search each day, adds Meta to reach new buyers beyond that pool.
Either way, the order is a choice about where your next sale is most likely to come from. It is not a permanent rule.
So which one should you pick?
Pick Google Search if people already search for what you sell. Pick Meta if your buyers do not know you yet, or if your product sells on how it looks. If your monthly ad spend is under AED 30,000, pick one platform and test small. Use this short test to check.
- People already search for what you sell? Start with Google Search.
- Nobody knows your product yet? Start with Meta.
- Your product sells on how it looks? Start with Meta, with strong video.
- Your buyer has an urgent need? Start with Google.
- Under AED 30,000 a month in spend? Pick one platform and test small.
